Il processo di perdita di forza e massa muscolare causata dalla sarcopenia è un processo fisiologico, che tuttavia può essere accelerato da una scorretta alimentazione e dalla mancanza di esercizio fisico.

Esistono evidenze scientifiche che la nutrizione clinica specifica in associazione all'esercizio fisico mirato riduce il rischio di disabilità, la perdita di indipendenza e migliora la qualità di vita.
